In the previous post you have seen the way QlikView works with database to provide analytical insights for the business. Now we will start using this powerful tool.
Voila! So QlikView is now installed on your local machine. Now let's start connecting to the databases and see how much we can discover with databases and tables. In the next chapter we will have a look over the connectivity.
QlikView for Developers:
Though QlikView involves licensing for everything, QlikTech
has given the developers the ease of using QlikView through its Personal
Edition which is free on their website www.qlik.com. The latest version for
QlikView available on the website is QlikView 12. Developers can easily
register on this website and download the Personal Edition. Developers can
perform all types of analysis using this Personal Edition except for that
QlikView Personal Edition does not give the possibility of opening the QlikView
documents created by some other user. It offers limited chances to open the documents created by some other user. In order to open the documents created by
some other user you need to have a license for that.
Downloading and Installing QlikView on local machine:
You can download the QlikView software from
http://www.qlik.com/try-or-buy/download-qlikview. Register yourself and click
on Submit. Your .exe file will get downloaded. Double click on the .exe file to
install QlikView. After the installation, open QlikView.
As you open the QlikView application, you will find the QlikView examples in the left panel of the application.
These are the demo examples for the beginners. You can walk
through these examples to understand how QlikView works and plays with the data.
It also gives you a much better idea for various visualizations and analysis.
In the bottom panel you will find the training material so
that you don’t need a teacher or a professor to teach you QlikView.
Under Resources heading in the bottom panel you will find an
option "License information".This is an important part wherein you
will come across the various licensing and leasing section of QlikView. This we
can discuss in the QlikView Server Tutorials which will be published shortly.
Since we are currently using personal edition, we will overlook license information
part for the time being.
The middle panel which you can see in all the screenshots
provides you the list of QlikView documents which you have recently opened. As
you can see in the below screenshot, I have recently opened “Getting Started”
file and hence it got listed in the Recent section.
Voila! So QlikView is now installed on your local machine. Now let's start connecting to the databases and see how much we can discover with databases and tables. In the next chapter we will have a look over the connectivity.
